Creed-Miles was invited to tender for the design and installation of two bespoke reception counters and one cash counter within an open-plan university reception. Working from the architect’s drawings, the goal was to deliver a solution that matched the brand’s identity while meeting strict functionality and accessibility standards.

Key Requirements

Collaborative Design Development

Initial architect plans were refined through close collaboration with the university’s senior architect. All configurations were detailed in both 2D plans and 3D visuals to ensure clarity and approval.

DDA-Compliant Reception Solutions

The reception counters were custom-built to ensure full accessibility while incorporating functional elements like tech compartments, storage, and printer access.

Cash Counter Functionality

Designed for heavy daily use, the cash counter included robust cable management, audio document transfer capability, and accessibility support via an integrated induction loop.

The result is a dynamic, multifunctional learning space that supports collaboration, focused study, and reconfiguration—encouraging modern learning styles and teamwork.

Outcome

The finished counters bring a refined, branded presence to the university’s reception area—balancing accessibility, durability, and aesthetics. With carefully planned technical integration and a polished finish, the reception now offers a professional and welcoming experience for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Technical Integration & Coordination

We worked in tandem with electrical and partitioning teams throughout the project to ensure seamless installation and functionality.

What we did

  • Collaborated closely with the senior architect to finalise detailed configurations, finishes, and laminate colour schemes
  • Produced and submitted comprehensive plans, including 3D renders and elevation drawings, for approval

  • Ensured close coordination with partitioning and electrical contractors to meet all technical and installation requirements

  • Designed and built two DDA-compliant reception counters with integrated storage:
    o Built-in pedestals
    o Pull-out printer shelves
    o Lockable drawers
    o PC compartments

  • Manufactured and installed all three counters to meet the university’s opening deadline for the Graduation Ceremony

  • Delivered a bespoke cash counter with full cable management, including:
    o Power access and entry system integration
    o Audio document transfer tray with induction loop
    o Two custom-built pedestals for internal use
